Keynote Speakers

Peter Lindstrom

Peter Lindstrom is a Computer Scientist in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which he joined in 2000. His primary research areas include data compression, scientific visualization, computer graphics, and scientific computing.

Peter is the inventor of several open source compression schemes for floating-point and mesh-based scientific data, including zfp, fpzip, and hzip, and has published more than two dozen papers related to data compression. He leads the zfp data compression effort as part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Exascale Computing Project, and is co-investigator on LLNL's efforts in Variable Precision Computing. His zfp software has been adopted by HPC I/O libraries like HDF5 and ADIOS, and is being integrated into popular visualization tools like VisIt, VTK-m, and Cinema. Peter previously served as Editor in Chief for Graphical Models and is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Vassil Dimitrov

Prof. Vassil Dimitrov obtained his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Mathematical Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1995. He spent two years as a Postdoctoral fellow at the VLSI Laboratory, University of Windsor, Canada and one year at Signal Processing Laboratory, Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. From 2001, he is a faculty member of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Calgary, Canada, where he holds a Full Professorship position.

Prof. Dimitrov spent his sabbatical in 2009 at the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at NTU, Singapore, conducting teaching and research in the field of cryptography and information theory. His research interests are rather broad and include computer arithmetic, computational number theory and cryptography, signal and image processing, numerical analysis and computations, bioinformatics and related topics. Since 1997 Dr. Dimitrov is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
